Mobile tyre fitting in Royston

Royston is fourteen miles west of us along the A505, and it’s one of the more interesting parts of the patch because of the roads. Three fast routes meet there, and each throws up a different kind of tyre job.

This guy literally saved my life. My wheel went close to Duxford and they came within 30 minutes on a Sunday around 6pm and fixed it on the spot for a very good price. Like, who does that? Thanks to them I didn’t have to pay a fortune for a recovery.

Pavel Schor · Duxford

What an amazing service — really fast, efficient and friendly. Puncture sorted in under an hour after my first message. Highly recommended local business.

Grant Dain · Saffron Walden

Called up and he was here within the hour. Two tyres done on the drive. Top bloke and amazing service.

Charlie Davey · Saffron Walden

Great service — got a puncture and he was able to fit a premium tyre for my car the same day.

JC Spearpoint · Essex

No trouble too small. Came out as soon as possible and fitted in the dark. Great service.

Where we get called out in Royston

The A505 between Royston and Baldock is the one we get called to most. It’s fast, exposed and busy with lorries, and the stretch past the Therfield Heath side collects debris that finds tyres at seventy miles an hour. The A10 north towards Cambridge is much the same. Then there’s the A1198, Ermine Street, which is dead straight Roman road and deceptively quick. People are often further from a garage than they realise when something goes. In the town itself the pattern is commuter: Royston station has a fast line to King’s Cross, so cars sit in the station car park all day and the flat is discovered at seven in the evening. South of the town, in the single-track lane country around Barley, Barkway, Therfield and Great Chishill, a recovery truck is the last thing you want and a van that comes to you is the first.

Royston sits on the Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire boundary, which is exactly the sort of place national booking systems get confused about and a local van does not.

What we can do at the kerbside in Royston

Every one of these is a job we do in Royston most weeks:

All of it happens where the car already is, anywhere in SG8. The van carries the machine, the balancer and the compressor, so a Royston call-out normally finishes at the kerbside instead of ending in a recovery truck.

How much does it cost in Royston?

The same as everywhere else inside our 50-mile area: a puncture repair from £35, a new tyre supplied and fitted from £75, and no call-out fee for coming to Royston. Ring with your registration and the size off the sidewall, and you’ll have the figure for your Royston job and an arrival time for SG8 before the van moves. The price guide lists the rest.

Mobile tyre fitting in Royston: your questions

Do you cover Royston and the surrounding villages?

Yes. Saffron Walden Tyres 24/7 covers Royston SG8 and the villages around it, including Melbourn, Bassingbourn, Barley, Barkway, Therfield, Litlington, Kneesworth and Great Chishill. Royston is about 14 miles from our Saffron Walden base along the A505, so the van is typically with you in 35 to 50 minutes, at any hour including through the night.

Can you come out to a puncture on the A505?

Yes, and the A505 is one of our regular roads. It’s fast and exposed, so pull as far onto the verge or into a lay-by as you can, get everyone out on the field side, and put the hazards on before calling 07944 703971. We carry the tyre, machine, balancer and compressor on the van, so the great majority of A505 call-outs are finished at the roadside without recovery.
